By Mail: ID Requirements
When submitting your application by mail in Maine, you are required to provide your Maine driver’s license or State ID number. If you do not have a Maine driver’s license or State ID, you are required to include the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you have not been issued any of these numbers, write "NONE" in the space for ID number.
By Mail: Eligibility Requirements
To register in Maine you must:
be a United States citizen
be a resident of Maine and the municipality in which you want to vote
be at least 16 years old (you must be at least 18 years old to vote, except that you may vote in a primary election if you are 17 and will be 18 by the General Election)
By Mail: New Voter Instructions
If you are registering to vote for the first time in your jurisdiction and are mailing this registration application, federal law requires you to show proof of identification the first time you vote. Proof of identification includes current and valid photo identification OR current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or government document that shows your name and address. Online Instructions
To register online in Maine, you need to provide at least ONE of the following: Maine driver’s license number, Maine state ID card number, or the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you don’t have a Maine driver’s license, Maine state ID card, or Social Security number, you can still submit a voter registration application by mail.
